ANDREA SELWOOD IN COLLABORATION WITH IRIS HSIEH (TAIWAN)

Dowse Square

Workshop: make your own Salt Crystal Trees. Sunday 26 February 12-2pm

Join artist, Andrea Selwood in shared conversations about Hutt water while making simple paper craft . You will design, cut out and colour your personal “Hope tree” for a collaborative display of crystalisation. A fun way to explore the greenhouse effect. Koha entry meets cost of materials.

How do plants absorb water? What is the greenhouse effect? Exploring climate change, sea level rise, and extra salinity in our fresh groundwater. Join the artist in workshops at the Hutt CBD lab to make salt crystal trees for a colourful tree plantation. Enjoy visiting the time-lapse crystalisation process over the festival. Post production involves mounting the trees in diorama arboretums to represent a radical future view of a changed landscape – bring a large jar for this take-home momento. Schedule of workshops to follow.

Hothouse Indicator follows Andrea Selwood and Iris Hsieh’s Unseasonable Change in Wellington with Urban Dream Brokerage in in July and August 2016. For images and more information see here.
